You might be a Cultural Creative if...


Values/Ideals
  • You sometimes feel like no one else out there shares your values or world view.
  • You hesitate to tell others about your dreams.
  • You seek community in many places, yet feel alone and sometimes isolated.
  • You are hungry for information, constantly curious.
  • You are skeptical of slick, Madison Avenue advertising.
  • Values like honesty, integrity, and accountability are important to you.
  • You think education is essential, but question what you learned and what is being taught today.
  • You are trying to simplify your life.
  • You hope for the future, in spite of uncertainty.
  • You want to be a better person in whatever way you personally define as "better."
  • You are optimistic that somehow we, as a society, will figure out a way to eliminate violence, reduce pollution, celebrate our differences, and create a better world.

Spirituality/Tolerance
  • You use words like higher power, universal, cosmic, or karma.

  • You listen to public radio, classical, and jazz stations.
  • You go to films as well as movies.
  • You watch The Learning Channel on cable TV, e.g., Sightings or Mysteries of the Pyramids.
  • You watched the latest episode of the X-files.
  • You volunteer your time in some way, to assist cultural or societal change.
  • You attend workshops and seminars on a variety of subjects or would if money were no object.
  • You like to hear the stories of people lives, e.g., how they got to this point in their lives.
  • You eat in restaurants as a form of entertainment.

Political and Current Events
  • You like to watch world events unfold.
  • You are appalled by political power struggles, favor campaign finance reforms, and are confused about the definitions of Democrat and Republican.
  • You want government to lead the way to a new renaissance civilization.
  • You like the new global world, surf the net, and favor the United Nations, at least as a concept.
  • You want to help heal the earth, try to do a little, and wish you could do more.

Lifestyle
  • You recycle and think twice about the packaging on the products you buy.
  • You read Consumer Reports for major purchases like cars, appliances, computers, and sound equipment.
  • You resist going to the mall. Shopping is just to shop; it no longer is (or never was) fun.
  • You resent the materialism of commercialized media.
  • You avoid status displays.
  • You drive a mid-priced economy car, with good gas efficiency and a high safety rating.
  • You live in a modest place, probably rented, perhaps by a park or open land.
  • Your place is comfortable and personal, with art, photographs, and family keepsakes.
  • You have electronic equipment, from CD players to CD-ROM drives, in your home.
  • You want neighborhoods that are cozy and safe.
  • You think twice about the ethics of the companies and mutual funds in which you choose to invest.

Health & Nutrition
  • You like foreign foods.
  • You like to cook new healthy recipes.
  • You read labels on jars and food packages.
  • You have cut back on caffeine, drink green tea, or increased your water consumption.
  • You know where the nearest food co-op or health food store is.
  • You have at least one vitamin or nutritional supplement in your cupboard.
  • You have taken an herbal remedy.
  • You want to take care of your body and have seen or considered seeing an alternative medical professional, such as a holistic healer, homeopath, or chiropractor.
  • You meditate or wish you did.
  • You have tried tai chi, aikido, or another form of Eastern exercise.
