Goal-Setting
How To Get What You Want Out of Life
Have you ever set a goal that you knew would really take time and effort
to reach, something that would require months of diligence? When you reach
the goal, the sense of accomplishment has a profound impact on your life.
It builds self-esteem, and you feel inspired. You know you can accomplish
anything you set out to do. That's why goal-setting is critical for
manifesting what you want in life.
To set goals, you need know what you want and how you want to get
there. It is up to you to create the action plan or blueprint for your
path. Once you have started to paint the picture of where you want to go,
you'll recognize that there are lots of changes that need to be made and
things you need to do to get there...and that's the foundation for the
goal-setting process.
Goal-Setting Step 1: Start thinking about what you can do now,
with your current skill set and resources, to begin moving in the right
direction. That is the foundation for your current year's goals, which are
fairly specific.
Goal-Setting Step 2: Determine your goals for the next year.
This step in the goal-setting process can take a couple of weeks to
complete to your satisfaction. Your goals need to reflect what you can
truly put your heart into. Remember, your actions have to support where
you say you want to go. There's no point including things in your
goal-setting that you're not willing to work for.
Begin by proposing one goal for each area of your life. Remember that you
need to be able to create a realistic action plan that you will execute
over the next year, based on the time you can make in your current life
and how long you are willing to take to reach the ultimate goal.
As you begin the goal-setting and achieving process, all the frivolous and
unproductive uses of your time will be squeezed out. You have a plan, and
it is up to you to execute it.
Goal-Setting Step 3: Word your goals for maximum impact. First, you
need a goal that is clear and definitive. Next, you want to phrase your goal as if it has already happened, to help your subconscious begin
to accept that indeed your goal has been realized and integrated into your
life. Also start every goal with "I give thanks that...". When you thank the universe in advance,
the guidance and assistance that are available to you will be put into
motion. (Just pay attention so you can take
advantage of it when it presents itself.) Lastly, ask for exactly what you want or something better, which implies to your subconscious and
the universe that you are open-minded about the outcome or detached from
the exact result. You just need to be willing to persist until you reach
your goal, without forcing your exact plan to fruition.
Goal-Setting Step 4: Tap into your inner guidance. It might be
hard, at first, to see how meditation can help in goal-setting and
achieving, but you will be pleasantly surprised to discover that time
spent in meditation can be some of the most productive time in your day.
You can put the guidance you receive to use immediately in goal-setting
and in working toward achieving your goals. Meditation can help you quickly choose the easiest
path with confidence instead of spending days trying to decide which way
to go and can help you avoid problems rather than creating them. The more focused you are, the stronger the
connection.
Goal-Setting Step 5: Put together a collage, to really imprint
your goals in your subconscious mind. What you want is to regain the
creativity of childhood, because the creative mind is open to all
possibilities. When you are working on manifesting the goals and desires
you developed in your goal-setting, you have to live it in your mind
before it can be brought into the physical world. The collage imprints a
vivid picture in your mind of what you are focusing on. Making it doesn't
require thinking; it's an intuitive process designed to get the creative
juices flowing.
Goal-Setting Step 6: Develop daily affirmations that support the
goals you developed in your goal-setting. You need to figure out what you
need to change about yourself to make it easier to practice or keep the
commitments you made in your goal-setting. You might affirm that you keep
commitments and follow through. With affirmations, it is more about who
you are than what you do. Nothing changes until you change. As you alter your own behaviors, you
become a magnet for what you want to attract into your life. For example,
"I have mastery-level knowledge for everything I undertake." You
can see how this affirmation is about how you want to be in the world.
Goal-Setting Step 7: Develop a full-blown written plan with the steps necessary to get you where you say you want to go, to help achieve your
goals. Once you have done your goal-setting, you know where you want
to go and how you want to be. It's time to figure out how you are going to
get there. You want your plan to be a
stretch but not unrealistic. Your goal-setting action plan starts out with things you need to do
this month, usually related to each goal. Then you make a three-month and
a six-month plan. Don't spend a lot of time on the longer-term plans,
because there's no use putting that much energy into something that will
no doubt change dramatically.
Goal-Setting Step 8: Review often. Goal-setting is an ongoing
process that requires regular review and adjustment for maximum
effectiveness. Review your goals, affirmations, and plan frequently. Do
they still represent who you are becoming? Have your actions been
consistently moving you towards where you say you want to go? If, in
reviewing your goals, you notice that several of them have had no
activity, it's time to reevaluate. The fewer goals
you have, the more time and energy you'll have to work on them. The goals
you apply consistent, persistent energy to are the ones that eventually
work themselves out into conscious reality. You can get to wherever you
want to go. There is plenty of time for everything.
It is important to
regularly spend some time truly evaluating what you've accomplished.
"What did I want to accomplish last year? What actually happened, and
what didn't? Were my actions consistent with what I said I wanted to
accomplish?" Gaining new insight also should lead you to re-examine
what you developed in your initial goal-setting.

incredible results and will be well on your way to creating a great life!
